Link of the Week!

This link of the week is brought to you in part by Media Arts Portfolio class - a great place to go to learn about lots of interesting resources. In particular, a website called "Patreon".

We all know the wonders of websites like Kickstarter. Money is donated to one grand event or release. If the creators do not deliver, this can seriously compromise their brand and audience. Anyone who follows Kickstarter trends might know where I am coming from.

Think of what would happen if someone who called themselves a "fan" of your art donated a dollar to you every time you released something new you created. Even if you have 10 loyal fans, you have 10 more dollars than you did before. That is worth a weeks-plus of coffee, 10 dollar-fries at McDonalds, etc. Not bad for a simple user sign-up.

Patreon is one of the newest (founded in May 2013) ways of making a name for yourself. It's literally a community where people can support their favorite creators - musicians, You-Tubers, artists, you name it. Not only does this mean it's a great place for fellow visual artists trying to make a few extra bucks - it's also not a bad idea for those musicians you know from high-school who have been playing gigs since who knows when. Shoot them an email.

Patreon isn't exactly as simple as Myspace, but remember - your audience will grow with you, and this is a great way to start.

Have a great week!
Sarah
